Welcome to South Sudan Institute for
Women's Education & Leadership (SSIWEL)
South Sudan Institute for Women’s Education and Leadership (SSIWEL) is an academic (operational and advocacy) nongovernmental organization which engages in designing and implementing educational projects as well as advocating for the well being of women, children and the needy. SSIWEL came into existence following the Government of Southern Sudan’s New Sudan Way Forward 2007 Conference in Washington, DC where concerns for women and girls’ education were outlined and addressed.
SSIWEL board members believe Education is the only solution to improve social, cultural, and economic hurdles facing women of Southern Sudan in this era of 21st century globally changing environment. It is the only mode to help promote participation of women in every segment of development and capacity building in both government and private sector in Southern Sudan and the Sudan at large. The 25% quarter allocated for women participation in leadership and governance must be represented by well-prepared Southern Sudanese women. Without education, the women of Southern Sudan will not be able to equally and equitably compete with the men and participate in the current changing and challenging global market fully, which requires a well rounded academic background, and related achievements.
SSIWEL is a 501(c)3.
